Intense physical work such as lifting of heavy equipment is a common cause of lower back pain. In this case, the muscles of the body especially lower back cease to expand which may cause pain. Some of the other causes include spontaneous spasms, sprains and swollen ligaments. In order to avoid such kind of pain, it is very important to make sure that you do not indulge in an activity which may involve rigorous physical work.

The first remedy for lower back pain would be to immediately stop the intense physical work and lie on the bed. You should lie on your back with a pillow under your head and your legs raised.

Another cure for lower back pain would be to place a pillow below the knees while lying down. This will ease the back pain and you can soon go back to your normal life. In case the back pain does not reduce after one or two hours of lying on the bed, it is recommended to apply an ice pack around the region of the back pain. The ice pack should be applied for at least 25 to 30 minutes. It is very important to rest at least for a day or two for the back pain to completely go away.

Other home remedies for the treatment of back pain include application of herbal pain balms which are easily available in pharmacies and supermarkets. It is recommended to keep one at home in case of other spontaneous spasms.

If the back pain persists after a day or two, it is recommended to see a specialist as the pain maybe an indication of something more severe.
